We’ve completed some enhancements to three family rooms within the Neo-Natal Unit at Airedale General Hospital, creating a more supportive and comfortable environment for families preparing to take their babies home.

The rooms are used by parents when their babies are strong enough to move off the main unit and begin that transition home. While clinically appropriate, the spaces lacked the warmth and comfort needed during what is often a deeply emotional and challenging time.

Following internal feedback from our team, on where community efforts could have the most meaningful local impact, we identified an opportunity to support the hospital and engaged with Airedale Hospital and Community Charity to understand where that support could be best directed.

As Jodie Hearnshaw, Charity Manager at Airedale Hospital & Community Charity, explains:

“We cannot thank J Carey Design enough for the compassion and thoughtfulness they have poured into transforming our three family rooms on the neonatal unit. For families facing some of the most worrying and emotional days of their lives, having a calm, comfortable and welcoming space close to their baby means more than words can express.

These beautifully designed rooms offer a sense of comfort, dignity and care at a time when it is needed most. This generous support will have a lasting impact on our families, and we are incredibly grateful for this meaningful contribution to their journey.”

Working with our local supply chain, we carried out a full upgrade to the three rooms, including:

Bespoke bedside tables and storage units
Wall-mounted storage solutions
Backlit art canvases
Blackout blinds
Reupholstered reclining chairs
Hospital-compliant finishes and materials throughout

Artwork within the rooms was kindly donated by local author and illustrator Jo Overend, adding an additional layer of warmth and personality to the spaces.

As Jo explains:

“To provide a little hope and comfort to everyone that sees them.”

Delivered in collaboration with our supply chain
Readshaw Interiors, Regal Blinds Ltd, Upholstery2u Ltd, TAC ELECTRICAL LIMITED and Extreme Display Ltd the scheme reflects a shared commitment to supporting the communities we work in.

While we typically deliver complex, multi-million-pound schemes across courts and justice, workplace and healthcare environments, projects like this sit alongside our core commercial work as part of a defined social value strategy.
